With a German beer hall feel, this Wisconsin Union icon hosts music sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Directorate's Music Committee, game watches for the Badgers, Packers, and Brewers, and provides a place to meet and socialize. The Rathskeller (also known as the Rat) is UM's on campus pub. Created in 1973, the Rat has become a popular meeting place for students and faculty to enjoy a quality, casual dining experience. The pub is known for its signature menu, featuring hamburgers, sandwiches, and hand-spun milkshakes. The Rathskeller (ratskellar, a German word meaning restaurant in the town-hall cellar) was built in Bavarian tradition.
